As mentioned in this article, cultural and language barriers do exist, but with some time and effort can be solved. Read a lot on the Russian culture, participate in forums and be straightforward. Don’t be afraid to ask and do some research. Make an attempt to learn Russian. It is not an easy language in general, but reading is simple and one can master it in couple hours. Seems like a small thing, but being able to read will help you tremendously when visiting Russia or FSU countries. You’ll be able to find your way around subway, read menus and bills, directions, etc. Be open to try and learn new things!
